Overview
A static website displays predefined and static information to users. These sites function mostly as "brochures" and typically do not change much for an extended period of time. Updates to the site must be done manually and users cannot control the information they receive from the site.
Strengths
Static websites are easy to set up and provide a consistent message to users.
Weaknesses
Static websites tend to be difficult to update. As these sites are rarely updated, users have little incentive to visit the website regularly.
Examples
National Partners in Flight uses a static website (http://www.partnersinflight.org/) to share information about the organization.
Tutorials
Google provides a simple tutorial for setting up a static (or dynamic) website with Google Sites (http://sites.google.com/support/bin/static.py?page=guide.cs&guide=23216&topic=23221).
